Research & Data

As with most of our important pages this one is split into three sections. The first section is designed to give you the fast facts about what research and data we have. The second section is designed to give you a much more in depth understanding of the method we try to employ when analysing the research. Finally the third section is where you will actually find the reports and our summary. If you find our information helpful please feel free to share it on social media etc.

All Payday Loan Research & Data in one place

Our aim is to bring together an enormous amount of research and data about payday loans, yet present it in a manner that is easy for you to search for what you want. Research and Data are obviously subjective within the context of the regulatory framework that existed at the time they were carried out. As developments in this sector can be fairly rapid due to the sectors infancy we ask as a redder that you please take about of the context the reports are published within.

This research and data is available to everyone. Whether you are a journalist searching for up-to-date information about the industry, a student updating your education or writing a report or an individual involved in taking out a payday loan and wishing to find out the truth behind the marketing and advertising, it will all be here, for you.

What is our research and data? Simply, we have gathered information from all over the world and presented each piece with a short summary of the report with a one click action for you to access and download the report, should you wish to read its entire contents.

Research and its relevant data are usually collated to answer a particular question or problem, but we are also concerned about who is asking the question and what kind of answer they are prepared to accept.

Where you wish to republish any of the research and data in any form, please acknowledge the source, and don’t forget to remember that you got it from us and give us a mention.

How we stay Fiar & Impartial

In the easiest form, research is the task of searching and gathering information following a set of questions or problems that have been raised. The research can range from simple to complex and can be carried out by anyone who requires the answer to the question. The company, charity, journalist, student or university department may be set the challenge to research and present the data and they will need the ability to locate and evaluate the information that has been sourced.

The research may be formed by facts, observations, interviews, measurements and experiences. The extrapolated data can be presented in a variety of formats, with the aim to make it simple to be understood.

Is the research & data fair and unbiased?

How do you know which research and data should be believed? This is not an easy question to answer. When we have done a summary of a report we try to take into consideration all of the below points to try to keep it fair and balanced. In our opinion for a report to be credible there needs to be (at least) three factors to consider:

One Is it detailed enough?

As an example, The Independent Newspaper revealed, in its 21st May, 2014 edition that around 100 of the UK’s 210 payday lenders had pulled out of the UK market place after tougher regulation was introduced. We should believe the report because of the source of the information (The Independent), but their data observations are quite limited and they haven’t actually checked the entire market place to see how accurate their data is. They have decided upon their own best estimate to provide data figures. The research is severally limited, but nevertheless, it is extremely useful for anyone wishing to quickly grasp an overview of the lenders that remain in this active market place.

Two Are they an authority?

Any research and data coming out of the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority) should be treated as factually recorded material, because it is being presented by an authority that is regarded as trustworthy and forthcoming. They do not have or carry a hidden agenda to present the results as misinformation.

Many substantial charities are also regarded as a good authority because they have extensive research and data from their own customers. Nevertheless, a debt advice charity, for example, is almost certainly only receiving its research and data based upon people they have seen from all who have approached the charity because they need debt advice, and this does not account for the people who have successfully completed and repaid their payday loans on time.

Three Do they have a hidden agenda?

Too many companies, charities and non-profit organisations release their research and data for the consumption of the general public and the journalists in every sector, (social media, newspapers, magazines, television and the Internet), but have written the conclusions to the report before they begin the investigations that will supply the data for the research and results.

Some debt advice charities, for example, will attempt to present research data with a compliant slant in their headline, content and conclusion, to attack the payday loans industry, which gives them the opportunity to attract more individuals to accept debt advice and more investment to increase the status of the charity; but you have to balance that with the good that the charity is attempting to complete in your local community and any wider area.

We will supply these research reports, but will try to bring any hidden agendas to your attention, so you are primed before you read.
